Austin is a great place to live. Some of the best day's are provided courtesy of the winter warm fronts. Spring, fall and most of the winter are extensions of the summer only milder. I don't mind the heat of summer and don't miss any brutal winters. Click on the underlined links for more information on what could become some favorite places to visit.
Outdoor activities can be unlimited. Youth baseball and soccer are almost year around events. It is too easy to find a lake to fish, ski and swim. West of Austin is the beautiful Hill Country and Highland Lakes. The natural Barton Springs in south Austin, spring fed Deep Eddy Pool located off of Lake Austin Blvd., and Lake's Austin and Travis are a short drive from most any area in town. Many neighborhoods offer pools and parks within walking distance of your home. Thank goodness the Austin job market has remained fairly healthy. Call us for info on area's like this.
The music industry in Austin is world renowned. Many of the clubs and restaurants feature the local music. The 6th street and Warehouse district scene's provide a number of venues you can walk between. Plays, ballets, art exhibits and major concerts are all available to meet every taste. Restaurants from the lavishly expense to very affordable are everywhere. My favorite is Mexican food and they are affordable, abundant and the food is usually delicious.
There are a number of wonderful small town destinations that cater to the local and traveling tourist. Nolan Ryan added the Round Rock Express minor league baseball team in 2000 and they have made the playoffs in each of there first few years. New Braunfels, Wimberley and Fredericksburg are small towns that offer shopping, wineries, German food, beer, and music and are all within a short drive of Austin. Luckenbach is just outside of Fredericksburg and Gruene just outside of New Braunfels and both have ancient dancehalls that are still active with live music. These are all truly special places to visit. Additionally, there are at least three caverns to explore within an hour drive of Austin. Bastrop is east of Austin and has a pine forest with petrified wood and Bed and Breakfast establishments adjacent to the Colorado River. San Antonio, which is not a small town destination, with the Alamo, River Walk, Sea World and Six Flags is just more than an hour drive south. Corpus Christi and the beach are little more than 3 hour's drive south. For the truly adventurous try Big Bend National Park (Terlingua) in west Texas, albeit a 8 hour drive.
